Treat your Valentine in Bayfield, WI!
Every year, we all struggle to find the perfect way to celebrate our special someone. Flowers, chocolate, and jewelry are fine, but we bet giving the gift of a romantic trip to Bayfield, WI, will be far more memorable. While Bayfield is better known for carefree summer days kayaking and sailing in the islands, or enjoying the bountiful orchards during the Bayfield Apple Festival, winter offers a perfect cozy and romantic setting for couples looking to get away.
Here is our perfect Bayfield Winter Weekend Getaway:
Bail out of work at noon and get on the road early (don’t worry, we checked, your boss is fine with this). Swing by Copper Crow Distillery tasting room on your way into town. They are proud to be the first Native owned distillery in the country. Open Thursday through Saturday, they offer small-batch award-winning spirits. You’ve officially made it to Bayfield. Congrats! Unwind by sampling a flight or order one of their perfectly crafted cocktails, then take your favorite spirit home!
We know you’re going to be hungry after sipping. There is nothing more Bayfield than enjoying a Fish Fry on Friday, and our favorite winter fish fry is the Pier Plaza. They’ll load you up with crispy fish, mashed potatoes & gravy(or fries) and coleslaw.
It’s been a long day, and it’s time to settle into one of our serene Brickyard Creek cabins and cottages. Nestled just North of town, these beautiful cabins are tucked in the Boreal Forest so tightly you’ll forget how close to town you really are. Snuggle up on the couch in front of the fireplace for a night of board games, your favorite movie, or just stare lovingly into your partner’s eyes. (Make sure to blink or this gets awkward).
Now that you’re well rested, start your day off with a delicious breakfast at the Old Rittenhouse Inn. Right in the heart of historic downtown Bayfield, this exceptional dining experience is open to the public from 8 am to 10 am during the winter. Follow your breakfast by exploring the unique shops in Bayfield’s Historic Downtown, then enjoy a serene couples massage at the cozy Superior Body Massage & Spa. They offer couples packages and multiple services to meet your needs. ADVANCE RESERVATIONS REQUIRED AT BOTH!
Is a couples massage a little too relaxed for your vibe? Are you and your partner more adventurous? Check out Wolfsong Adventures in Mushing! This once in a lifetime experiance puts you in control of your very own dog team. The 4-hour excursion takes place in the hills overlooking the gorgeous Lake Superior, and even includes a warm snack halfway through.
Now that the afternoon is wrapping up, stop by Bayfield Winery and Blue Ox Cider. They are open Fridays and Saturdays for tastings! They have a great selection of wines and ciders made with fruit grown on the property. If you find something you love, you can order bottles as well to take home.
It’s time for dinner. Grab a reservation at the St. James Social. Located on mainstreet in Bayfield in a recently renovated 150-year-old building, SJS offers upscale dining in a relaxed atmosphere. They love to highlight regional and seasonal products, and their bar even includes a craft NA cocktail menu.
It’s Sunday, but there’s no need to rush home from Bayfield. Head up to Mt. Ashwabay and cross-country ski on their impeccably groomed trails. You can even book a couples lesson! Rentals are available.
Unique Valentine’s Day Bayfield opportunity: If you happen to be in Bayfield on Feb. 14, Eckels Pottery and Fine Craft Gallery offers a Valentine’s Date Night, where novice potters can get a taste of wheel-throwing while enjoying chocolates and wine. A “Ghost” themed photo will also be available to keep the memory alive.
Note: Patrick Swayze is not included in this adventure.
